MAGIC CROPDUSTERS- Goshen
"[One of the] CDs of the '90s that stand the test of time [and] matter most."
-Philip Martin, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 12/26/99
"[M]air hooks in here than a bass tournament. And it grows oan ye until yer drivin' tae work three weeks later an realise ye've been hummin' 'Kontiki' continuously. In the shower, in yer dreams, whilst yer havin' a shag ... and then it aw makes sense. This is a keeper. For all seasons. Stash."
-"Scottish" Brian, Little Rock Free Press, 3/31/99
"Capped by the achievements of ho-hum, Little Rock's rock scene is also home to the Magic Cropdusters, who sound on their second album, the Jim Dickinson-produced "Goshen" (HTS, 3 stars [on a 1-to-4 scale]), like Pavement with better chops and more song structure. Not only does the singing of bandleader David Jukes recall Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, Jukes can't help but spout the line, "You cut off all your hair" (Pavement's Cut Your Hair anyone?). That's where the similarities end, however. The Magic Cropdusters are a colorful band in their own right with some excellent songs (Take the Things; the above-quoted Lucky Bell) and a fair bit of wordplay: "Now the boat is all leaky, just like the Kontiki.""
-Bill Ellis, Commercial Appeal, 3/13/99
"Local heroes who - along with the Boondogs, Ho Hum and Mulehead - may be on the verge of defining what we might think of as a Little Rock (or at least a Capitol View) Sound; quirk and strum guitar-driven pop that's at once earnest and humble and aspiring to excellence. Producer Jim Dickinson adds some crunch to the crackle and snap. A [rating; on an A-to-F scale]."
-Philip Martin, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 1/29/99
"[A] nifty little pop-tart...."
-Robert Wilonsky, Dallas Observer,1/21/99
